The Internet has become an integral part of our lives. You can use it to send emails to clients sitting in different parts of the world, chat with your relatives and friends over a video call, watch movies online, and lots more.
It is difficult to imagine our lives without the internet in modern times because we have become dependent on it for almost every task. Imagine you are working on some important assignments and the internet stops working. It would be quite frustrating for you, right? The problem may occur if your LAN has stopped working.
Thankfully, you can get rid of the LAN not working problem by trying out a few easy to perform solutions. Before we take the discussion further, lets first understand what LAN is.
What is a LAN?
It is also called a Local Area Network that comprises computers in a small area like an office, building, house, etc. One LAN connection can be connected with other LAN connections through radio waves or phones at any distance.Connection Issues With LAN:
Most of the internet connection problems are caused due to the issues with the Firewall settings & cables. It is advised to perform a check on the below-mentioned items before taking other steps to fix up the connection problem with LAN:- The first step is to perform a check on the firewall settings as they may be the culprit of blocking the internet connection.
- The lights depict the problem with the connection; check them on the network hub.
- Check if there is any issue in the network cable between the router and the modem?
- If there is another computer in the same network then make sure that it is turned on before you try to connect with it.
- Conduct a thorough check on wires and network cables because if they are loose then it may prove to be the reason for bad internet connection.
- Check the connection of the network cable in the RJ-45 port of the system.
It is one of the most important areas of your computer because it is the display center of the network and allows the users to share the files and discover the network.
This section is available in the control panel of your system. When you go to the Network & sharing center and then you can check the network status. The green line is a symbol of a good connection between the computer and the network.
However, the red line denotes a poor or bad connection. If you see the red line then you should click on the option of “Connect to a Network” to try connecting to a network.
You will get to see the connection and the network access, now select the option of “Choose home-group and sharing options. Now select the advanced sharing settings. Now you should review all the settings and switch them off and on as per the requirement. Also, switch on the option of network discovery.
Please note that the below-mentioned settings should be switched on all the computer systems across the network:-
- Password protected sharing.
- Media streaming.
- Network discovery.
- File sharing connections.
- Public folder sharing.
- File & printer sharing.
Now the connection should work. However, if still, the problem persists then you should proceed to the next step.
Now you should check the network troubleshooter and the network diagnostic tool. These are the most important tools to find out the issues with the network and fix them up using the various solutions. And if you do not see the network connection icon in the notification area, then Search for the “network & sharing” in the search panel of the start menu and then select the “Network & sharing center".
Now click on the red line or the yellow mark so that windows network diagnostics can be run.
The network & internet troubleshooter tool checks the issues and then work towards automatically repairing the network. To find this tool, go to the start menu again and search for the Network & sharing center.
Once you find the same then click on the option and then select “Troubleshoot problems”. You will get to see the troubleshooters and the network. Now to check the internet connections, click internet connections.
Keep on following the instructions to look through the issues, now the problem should be resolved. However, if it persists then you should think about the network adaptor.
If after checking the issues, troubleshooting the problems, if the problem persists then you may consider conducting a thorough check on the network adaptor. You should uninstall the network adaptor and then install it again. Follow the below-mentioned process to do the same:-
Search for the “Device Manager” in the search field of the start menu.
- Double click the option of Network adapters and then uninstall it by the right-click. Once you uninstall the network adapter drivers, you should reboot the computer. Once you follow this process, reinstall the network adaptor and now the internet should work. If still the issue persists, move on to the next process.
- Update the drivers: There might be a case that the drivers in your computer need the update. If you don’t want to waste your time updating drivers manually, then you can use a free driver updater to update them automatically.
- The LAN related services should be enabled on your computer: Go ahead and type services.msc in the “Run command” window. There will be a server properties option under the server in the services window. If the start button is of the grey color then you need to click on it to begin the service. First, choose the automatic option from the dropdown menu, click on Apply and OK to save the changes. You can follow similar steps to enable the other services related to LAN.
You should follow the above-mentioned steps if you are unable to connect to the LAN. Follow the checklist and ensure that different modes and settings are enabled.
